Edmonton Examiner: River park hosts Hip-Hop fest

With higher profile rap groups such as Politic Live and Touch & Nato to take the stage, event spokesperson Omar Mouallem says he expects 1,000 people to come down to the show, making it the biggest outdoor hip-hop event in Edmonton history.

Vue Weekly: All in a day’s work for the 40-some performers at Hip Hop in the Park

I wanted to open it up so that everyone who is working on something that they consider to be a part of hip hop [will] be able to have a moment in the sun,” explains event organizer Don Welsh. “Instead of selecting a select few to perform and telling everyone [else], ‘Tough luck, better luck next year,’ I wanted to give everyone a chance to get in the spotlight a little bit.”

“That’s what we need,” Touch enthuses. “Most of the stuff in the summer is just a bunch of people that know each other getting together, nothing really organized. It’s summer—let’s get it going!”

24 Hours: Festival looks to build hip-hop community

Aside from the more than 50 rappers, DJs, beatboxers, break dancers and graffiti artists scheduled to perform, the all-ages show hopes to expose the next generation of artists.
