This was not supposed to turn into a debate but it looks like it has.
I am open-minded and liberal and all for artistic expression, but this should not be permitted. Louise McKinney Park is not a proper venue for such an event, regardless of whether one person complains or 50.
First of all, why do they always have to establish their value system? I don’t care if you’re Liberal. It doesn’t mean anything. I’m not telling people, “I’m very liberal, but man do I love Doritos.” Irrelevant
Second, it does matter if one person complains or 50. One person of about 750 complaining is meaningless. It is weak. It is a percent of a percent of a percent. Aren’t we a numbers nation? Numbers are our taxes, our voting system, our murder statistics, our everything. 50 people complaining could be a problem, definetely. But to this day, HHitP has received 3 or 4 complaints (Norman Fusco, who wrote the initial letter to the Journal, may also be one of the noise complaints received too). Three or 4, of 750! Would you have faith in those results regarding anything substantial?
Profanity is a matter of taste. And from the amount of praise vs. amount of complaints we’ve received, it doesn’t taste that bad to people.
Because more people write complaint letters to papers than praise letters, it would be helpful to flip this on them. Let’s hear some positives. Tell them how much fun you had, how much you appreciated it, or what it’s done for you as an artist or rap lover.
